For K-12 districts and colleges
Yoshuko, Canvas and Blackboard
Three platforms, one question: what changes for your students this term?
Side by side
The rows a department decides on — including the ones we lose.

Canvas and Blackboard are sold on institutional contracts and publish no list price, so no price is claimed for either. Statements about Canvas and Blackboard last reviewed August 2026.
Where Canvas and Blackboard are still ahead
If any of these decides it for you, they should. Better you read it here than find it in a pilot.
Both
Single sign-on and student records
Canvas and Blackboard integrate with SSO, SAML and your SIS. Yoshuko has neither, so accounts and enrolments are managed in Yoshuko. That is fine for a department and a real cost at whole-institution scale.
Both
The LTI ecosystem
Two decades of LTI tools plug into Canvas and Blackboard. Yoshuko has no LTI support, so a tool you already licence will not appear inside a Yoshuko course.
Both
Remote proctoring
Neither invigilated online exams nor proctoring partners exist here. If a programme depends on proctored assessment, that stays where it is.
Blackboard
Similarity checking at no extra cost
SafeAssign ships with Blackboard. Ours is included too — this is a row we draw, not one we win.
Canvas
Breadth, and a large community
Canvas does more things than Yoshuko does, and there is an answer on a forum for most of them. A newer platform cannot claim that and should not pretend to.
Why a district or a college moves anyway
Eight arguments, each one a thing the platform already does.
Feedback arrives while it can still change the grade
Written work is marked against the teacher's own rubric within hours, not at the end of a fortnight's marking pile. Faster feedback is the least contested lever there is on achievement, and it is the one a marking backlog removes.
You see a student falling behind in week three, not in the results
Progress and drop-off are tracked per cohort inside a course, so a tutor can act while there is still term left. Completion and graduation rates are decided in week three, not in the results.
Attendance stops costing five minutes of every lesson
The register is taken by face as the class arrives. Across a timetable that is teaching time returned, and it makes attendance data reliable enough to act on rather than a box somebody ticked afterwards.
Academic integrity without a second contract
AI-use and originality checks run on every marked response, with the threshold set per course. Elsewhere this is a separate product, a separate procurement and a separate renewal.
Paper still works
Students photograph handwritten pages and the transcription is graded like any other answer. Nothing else in this category does that, and it matters wherever maths, science or exam practice is still done on paper.
Bring the courses you already have
Canvas, Blackboard, D2L, Schoology and Moodle archives import directly — units, pages, quizzes and answer keys. The reason departments stay where they are is the cost of moving, and that is the cost this removes.
And leave with them
Every course exports to Common Cartridge 1.3 or SCORM 1.2 whenever you want it. A platform that is easy to leave is one you can adopt on the strength of a term, rather than on the strength of a five-year forecast.
Sponsorable: one department, one term
Published prices and no implementation project mean a single department can run a real term and report a real result. That is a change somebody inside the institution can put their name to — and stop, cheaply, if it does not work.
Start with one department
- Export one course from Canvas or Blackboard as Common Cartridge and import it here. Units, pages, quizzes and answer keys come across.
- Run one term. Teachers mark against their own rubrics; the AI does the first pass and they change whatever they disagree with.
- Compare it with the department next door — marking turnaround, attendance, drop-off. Then decide.
Nothing is locked in. Every course exports back out to Common Cartridge or SCORM whenever you want it.
Give the marking back to your teachers.
Published prices, no implementation project, and your courses export whenever you want them.
